I want to let everyone know that
Cakewalk has done the right thing and
paid us a fee for using our design.
They have stated that this graphic was done by a freelancer and
they didn’t know.
Also all the unsold tees will be donated to an orphanage.
Thank you everyone for your support and loyalty.

That is terrible… you must be so upset….an exact copy….you must take legal action concerning your intellectual property. A company like Cakewalk should know better.

awful! we bought that tank from you a few years ago in your surplus store – it’s adorable and that is just terrible that it was copied. i believe cakewalk was started by former oilily designers – they have also had a plagerism scandal involving taking a small designer’s work almost exactly, i’m not sure what happened, but it sounded for sure like legal action was going to be taken, i hope you will as well – here’s the link :

I have been seeing a lot more of people copying other’s designs. The same happened to Heather Ross with the Princess and the pea bedding. Also I think Helen Dardik with some of her artwork. This is just from the few blogs I follow. Sometimes the art work is so good that other people have to copy it. You should contact this company any complain, they just completely scanned and copied your design. That is not fair. I am not a lawyer but I think they need to pull this product out or give you compensation. Good luck, I will continue to support you and other artists.
It is very frustrating to see your clothing design and artwork copied so blatantly. I have been reading a blog called something like “You Thought We Wouldn’t Notice” which has recently been taken over by a law firm. From what I have read there are steps you can take and since you are in this business maybe you had better have a strategy for dealing with unlicensed use of your artwork. The internet makes it easy for lazy designers/unscrupulous businesses to find and use the work of other designers, but it also makes it easier to be found out and publicised. I would think that it would be worth getting a lawyer to provide you with a standard letter to use in contacting these other businesses, that sets out your claim to the design, how they have infringed on your right as owner of the art/design, and what steps you expect them to take to rectify the situation. Sometimes the management outsource design and they are not aware that a stolen design has been purchased by them. You might also want to be in a position to work with them in the future if they really like your work and are genuine about obtaining your designs legally… there must be an industry norm for payment for the design based on sales that you can ask for by way of restitution. If it’s not a company you want to be associated with you can try to have stock withdrawn and destroyed. You might not get any satisfaction but it is worth a letter. The next step in pursuing the matter would be to threaten litigation and put the matter in the hands of lawyers , preferably ones who have international affiliates in the country where the company is based. Obviously doing this is costly. I’m not a lawyer but with my very basic long ago law school education I take an interest in how artists can retain their rights in their work. I hope that helps. This makes me so sad. I have seen a couple designers (well, people who sew) make VERY similar things as you. One even uses your fabric to embellish her outfits it just drives me nuts! I had your line in my boutique and after closing even kept one of everything JUST IN CASE I ever had a little girl
